Initial Ideas

I have decided that the intro of the video is going to be a close up of a guitar because the intro starts off with just a guitar i think it would be nice that it starts with a close up of the action.

The video will then go into the narrative I am going to start the narrative with a long shot of a person lying in bed and then a close up of an alarm clock going off. The person lying in bed will turn it off and then turn over and go back to sleep. It will then switch to another person in bed but instead of turning over they will get straight up and start getting dressed.

The video will switch to the band and their will be various shots of the band from different angles to make the video more interesting.

It will then switch back to the narrative and the lazy person is doing everything slow without any care in the world. While the other person will be rushing around. The lazy person spends ages brushing his teeth and doing little jobs. The person is lazy chucks his bills and post in the bin whereas the busy body will look at them and worry about them all day. Various things will happen to the both of them e.g. a car wetting them, or them standing in dog poo. The laid back one will not care at all and the one will worry and go home and get changed.

During the video it will switch from narrative to performance.

The narrative will end with both people getting to work at the same time, so it shows that you can be laid back. The laid back person has a word with him about being laid back and then he takes his advice and starts being laid back.

Target Audience Research

To decide on the videos target audience i used the bbfc website. I first looked at U rating, 'suitable for audiences aged four and over' and content should be allowed to be viewed by a young child alone. I also looked at a PG rating, parents are advised to decide whether the content could upset young children.

I think it is safe for me to
put the rating for my video PG. The message underlying my video is that you can still achieve things even if you are laid back in life. This could teach children to think that they don't have to try and they could become lazy. I think that their parents should watch the video for themselves to decide whether they are allowed to watch it on their own. Some parents wouldn't think the video is suitable for their children so my rating is PG.

Even though the rating of my video is PG my video will be aimed at 15 - 30+, since their music is liked by various types of people. A lot of young people turn up at their gigs as well as older people.

Narrative Research

Deconstruction of similar videos

The Eagles - Busy Being Fabulous

When i asked Peter, lead singer of That Blues Band, what bands they looked up to and were similar to his band, he named a few. Bands such as The Kinks, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and The Eagles. I looked at these artists music videos and found The Eagles - Busy Being Fabulous. This video is an amplification video so i decided to analyze it since this is what type of video i would like to produce.

The video begins with a woman doing various stereotypical routines that women go through on a daily basis. The first shot is a long shot which shows her talking on the phone, this establishes the woman's personality showing that she enjoys talking on the phone. The second shot is also a long shot. In this frame she is sorting out her clothes which shows that she cares about her appearance. The last shot is an extreme close up in which she is putting her lipstick on this also shows she cares about her appearance. All these shots reflect the songs title 'Busy Being Fabulous' because they all show how much work is put in to being fabulous.

The next shots are of the band performing. Tracking is used to establish all the performers and the setting. It shows they are performing outside at night so they could be performing at an event. The first shot is a two shot which shows the two guitarists, they both look happy which shows realism. They wouldn't get on stage with a frown because this wouldn't entertain their audience.

The video then goes switches back to the narrative. The first shot is a close up of the woman's face, again you can see her applying make-up and talking on the phone. This shot establishes that she is going somewhere and that she is very happy. The second shot is a long shot of the back of her. The camera tilts down her body to show the audience how fabulous she looks. This shot also creates a mystery for the audience because they can't see the front of her. The rule of thirds is also used because she is just off centre of the screen, this makes the audience only focus on her. The mise-en-scene is good in this scene because her dress shows she is going somewhere important because she has tried her hardest to look nice.

This shot is in the narrative, and it reflects what the singer is saying. It shows that the narrative actually fits with the lyrics to the song. The shot of the man is used to show that he is the woman's husband. It also shows the audience she has no time for him because she is 'Busy Being Fabulous', again this fits in with the lyrics of the song.

A pan is used to establish the setting and show the audience where it is set.

This shot is a medium close up in the form of a shallow focus. This makes the viewer focus on the singer, it shows that the singer is oblivious to the world around him because he is really concentrating on singing. The background is blurry but you can still see the drummer. A shot like this is used to make the audience concentrate on the object that is in focus.

The narrative starts intertwining with the performance. The first shot is a low angle of one of the band members carrying drinks. I think this shot shows the audience that even though they are in a band they are still normal people, they show this by the use of mise en scene, the band member is dressed as a waiter which is a normal everyday job.

This is an over the shot of two women gossiping and applying make - up in the toilet of the venue. This is a stereotypical shot because women always gossip and go to the toilet in twos. Again this reflects the song title and the lyrics.

.

Throughout the video there is a lot of hand held shots. I think this reflects her husbands state of mind because she is out all the time and he worries about her and their relationship.

I really like this video because the lyrics go with the narrative and they all fit together nicely. This is how i want my video to look, I want it to make sense and go with he lyrics. I think amplification videos are better than other videos because they make the audience want to watch them because there is something going on that they can follow.

The title of the album is the same as one of their song titles. If the audience have heard the song before and enjoyed it they will pay more attention to the album than if it was a name of a song they didn't know. The photo on the album also features in one of their videos, again the audience will pay more attention if they have seen the video and enjoyed it. The photo also gives a sense of peace and relaxation which reflects the genre of the music. It would have a different effect if there was a monster on the front.

Ideas

I have been thinking about how i could do the video. The song is about laying back and taking life as it comes. I am going to involve the band and two narratives together so it will be an amplification video. The narrative is going to be about two people who have the same job, one of them is laid back and the other one has to be on time. It goes through a narrative where the two people get up but one of them snoozes in bed while the other one is up doing things. At the end of the narrative it turns out that they arrive at work at the same time. It will tell the audience that you can be laid back.

Analysis of CD covers

Product and Genre

Clubbers Guide 2009

Bright colours and the neon lights goes with the genre because the genre is very upbeat. The woman dancing goes with the clubbing scene so this would also attract the audience. The ministry of sound logo would also attract the audience because people who have bought other ministry of sound albums and have liked them, this logo might attract them to buy this album. The font is big and bold so it stands out and looks very trendy.

Seal Soul

Dark colours so the name of the album stands out. It is an old microphone and the genre is liked by the older generation so this prop is perfect to attract the chosen audience. If it was a modern microphone it wouldn’t go with the genre.

Kasabian

Font is bold so it stands out. The costumes also make the band look different to other bands so this could also attract the audience. They are trying not to be stereotypical so it would attract a range of audiences.

Lethal Bizzle

This album cover is very bright and it stands out. The man is stood with attitude, which goes with the genre of the music. The costume would also attract the audience because people would look up to him and see him as a role model. The title is the brightest and reflects the ‘bling’ that the stereotype wears.

Final Song

That Blues Band - Take It Easy

My drama teacher is in this band and he gave me permission to use his song. His genre is blues but this song is more acoustic. They play many gigs in 'The Causeway' and 'The Blacksmith Arms'. They attract various types of audiences and they were surprised when many people from the younger generation where turning up to their gigs. Recently the lead singer 'Peter De Dee' went to Las Vegas to do shows on his own. Peter Sings as well as plays the drums for some of their songs. Kenny Layton is well known in Germany and he plays guitar aswell as backing vocals and also singing.

This is the bands permission:
